The Northern Europe Working Group, coordinated by the City of Brussels, organized a session on May 13th featuring the conference “Educational Inequalities: Understanding and Acting,” presented by Céline Darnon, Professor of Social Psychology at the University of Clermont-Auvergne, member of the Institut Universitaire de France, and co-director of the research team “Social Behaviors and Collective Dynamics” at the Laboratory of Social and Cognitive Psychology.

During her presentation, Darnon outlined the main courses of action available to educational teams and municipalities to reduce educational inequality and dismantle the mechanisms of social reproduction fostered by schools. Three best practices were also shared at the event:

  • Katowice: an initiative to host Ukrainian children.
  • Brussels: Public study spaces during exam periods.
  • Rennes: Support spaces for families to facilitate the family-school relationship and improve children’s schooling.
