The activity guide for the celebration of the 2026 International Educating City Day is now available. The International Association of Educating Cities invites you to organize campaigns and awareness-raising actions linked to this year’s motto: “Fostering critical thinking, democratic values and fighting against disinformation” . Specifically, it proposes a series of common activities, such as the exhibition in public spaces of panels that invite reflection on fake news and participation in an online event, on November 26 at 1 pm CET .
Given that it is not always easy to distinguish between accurate information and fake news, local governments have the urgent challenge of strengthening the critical skills of citizens by providing them with the skills to analyze and verify information.
The guide also recalls that, according to the Charter of Educating Cities , “the cultivation of language and critical thinking […] is increasingly important to prevent citizens from easily accepting stigmatizing stereotypes” .
