Rayón

Rayón is a municipality in the State of Mexico, whose name was taken, in 1874, in honour of one of the heroes of the Independence of Mexico, Ignacio López Rayón. However, there were several names that Rayón received in the past: Hueyapan, Tepemaxalco, Cuauhtenco, Xonacatalan and Santa María la Asunción. It is part of the Valle de Toluca Metropolitan Area. It is located on a plateau, 2590 meters above sea level. Its main economic activity is agriculture, highlighting the cultivation of grasses and vegetables. It is also noteworthy its artisanal activity with turned wood, which preserves its own characteristics and cultural legacy that has survived from generation to generation, and is appreciated nationally and internationally.
