Barcelona City Council takes advantage of the family reunification decree to manage immigration, promoting proactive policies, innovative actions and support for families, promoting social cohesion, equality and coexistence.

The “School Path – Friendly Places” project began in Barcelona in 2002. It promotes child autonomy, citizen responsibility and education in public spaces, turning the school environment into an external classroom.

The Education and Immigration Forum in Barcelona addresses the educational integration of immigrants and cultural diversity, promoting participation, cooperation between educational agents and the development of policies and good practices for inclusive coexistence.

Through this initiative the city’s population, particularly those people over 40, can maintain a healthy lifestyle by doing some free sport activities in the city’s parks and gardens, some of which are in the city’s less privileged areas.

The “Neighborhood time, shared educational time” project of Barcelona City Council offers quality extracurricular activities, adapted to the needs of each neighborhood, promoting social cohesion, coexistence and inclusion.

The Barcelona Institute of Education promotes “Contemporary Dance” as an educational tool for secondary school students, promoting integration, body knowledge and socialization. Started in 2002, it culminates with an exhibition in the city.

The program finances international cooperation and awareness projects in Barcelona, promoting human rights and structural transformations through annual or multi-year grants to non-profit entities.

2005 Reception Plan to integrate immigrants, offering essential information and resources through monthly sessions in the districts, promoting their social participation and knowledge of rights.
