The Association
We want to build a community and a society that is free, responsible and united
Founded in 1994, the International Association of Educating Cities (IAEC) is a non-profit organization, made up of local governments from around the world committed to education as a tool for social transformation, which promotes the exchange of ideas, reflections and good practices.
More than 30 years of exchanges with local governments around the world to strengthen their educational potential, endorse our trajectory.

Our aim
As set out in the Charter of Educating Cities, the aim of this association is to build a free, responsible and supportive community and citizenry, capable of living together despite their differences, resolving conflicts peacefully and working for the common good; a citizenry that is aware of the challenges currently facing humanity and possesses the knowledge and skills to take joint responsibility for finding the solutions demanded by the historic moment we are living through.
In this regard, we view education as a lifelong process that serves to raise awareness in order to reconcile freedom with responsibility, fostering a sense of interdependence among people and with nature as a way of living in the city and on the planet; encouraging reflection and critical thinking, and the ability to understand complex problems; encouraging co-responsible participation in the design and development of policies, and imagining and promoting ways of living that do not entail the destruction of the environment or inequality between people.
