Coastal city located at the center of the region of Asturias, northern Spain. The old town, which has Roman archeological remains, it is located in an old fortified hill. The construction of a commercial harbor at the beginning of the XVI century caused the expansion of the city towards the south. As of today, its naval and commercial harbor is one of the most active of the entire Cantabrian Sea coast. It also has several important industries, mainly in the metallurgical and iron and steel trades.
